Street Scenes

Photo crop exposure date: unknown.
Exposure date (or window) of subject photo: 1898-1912
Subject: Photo crop of a street scene. View is east along W. Commerce. Taken at a point on West Commerce just west of the “Bon Ton” millinery shop at 127 showcasing Commerce Street. The Presa Street intersection can be seen just beyond the two-story building on the right. The Steeple (1898) of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church can be seen beyond the towers of the Dullnig Block. The narrowness of the street and the reticence of the business owners to widening (not until 1912) allowed Houston Street to become the premier business location of the city.
