Street Scenes

Photo crop exposure date: unknown.
Exposure date (or window) of subject photo: 1908-1909
Subject: Photo crop of street scene. View is north and elevated. Taken from, most likely the building along the east bank of the river, south of the bridge, occupied by The Southern Messenger. The photograph showcases the Commerce Street Bridge and the Riverside Building. The bridge is the fourth one at this location. It is a lenticular pony truss bridge built in 1880 by the Berlin Iron Bridge Company of East Berlin, Conn. and replaced by a tee beam bridge in 1915. The Riverside Building, now renamed the Clifford Building was built in 1891 and designed to evoke memories of a river steamboat.
